Montpellier vs Troyes Betting Tips & Predictions

Montpellier’s 2-0 win at Nantes last weekend was a welcome three points to boost their chances of avoiding relegation. It ended their five match winless streak and puts them six points clear of the drop zone with four games remaining.

A win on Sunday could essentially confirm their safety, with it potentially putting them nine points clear of the bottom three and with a largely superior goal difference to the teams below them.

A win isn’t a given though, despite Troyes horrendous season. The bottom placed club have already been relegated from the top flight after picking up just 17 points, but three of those points came last weekend as they beat relegation candidates Reims 2-1 to end their seven match losing streak.

We’ve seen it happen many times, where the weight of the looming relegation hangs over the heads of a club, but their performances finally start to improve once the inevitable is confirmed. Whether that will happen with Troyes remains to be seen.

Either way it will still be difficult for them away from home on Sunday. They have lost six of their last seven away days in Ligue 1 and their sole win during this period was against 18th placed Gazelec Ajaccio.

Montpellier have lost their last two home games, but to be fair to them these were against teams challenging for a Champions League spot. Prior to that they beat both Toulouse and Lille.

I think Troyes will give it a good go though. They are playing for pride at the moment and have no pressure on their shoulders, and considering Montpellier have only kept two clean sheets in their last 11 home matches I think the visitors can at least get on the scoresheet. Troyes have managed to find the back of the net in four of their last five away days too.

This makes odds of 10/11 for Both Teams to Score look very attractive. I am going to back Montpellier to get the win though with a 2-1 correct score prediction at 8/1.
