Montreal can give their playoff chances a timely boost with a win against a maddening Inter Miami side that may be heading right to the bottom of the Eastern Conference.

Wilfried Nancy’s men have performed well above expectations in the first third of the regular season.

The first-year head coach has steered his team through a turbulent patch and they go into Sunday’s clash in seventh place and unbeaten in their last three.

Although Montreal have only scored three times in their last five games they are eighth in the entire MLS for chances created from open play and there could be some rich pickings available when the Herons visit Red Bull Arena.

Phil Neville has plenty of work to do to rectify a dysfunctional side that has lost the last four games and drawn regular criticism from their boss.

Defensively they have been a shambles at times, but now they appear to be struggling to score goals too with only one side in the east having bagged fewer than the Herons’ tally of nine from ten games.

This will not be a pretty affair, but the underlying stats point us towards a home win – albeit probably by no more than one goal.
