Monza vs Cremonese Predictions
- Cremonese are yet to win in 13 away league games this season, shipping 26 times on the road in Serie A.
- Monza have lost just two of their last 12 league matches, beating Empoli 2-1 in their last home outing.
- The hosts beat Cremonese 3-2 in January’s return fixture, having raced into a 3-0 lead away from home.
Promoted sides on different paths
Monza and Cremonese accompanied one another in winning promotion from Serie B last season, but ahead of their meeting at the Stadio Brianteo on Saturday, the two teams could hardly have enjoyed more different seasons in the top flight. While Cremonese have won one of their 26 games and look destined for a second-tier return, Monza could move as high as ninth with a win amid an impressive run under Raffaele Palladino.
Monza have only lost two of their last 12 league matches, with only Scudetto holders Milan beating Palladino’s men in their last seven on their own turf (W3 D3). Monza have lost 11 Serie A games this season – five of them before Palladino took charge – but only two of those defeats have come against teams not currently in the top half. The hosts won January’s return fixture against Cremonese 3-2, racing into a 3-0 lead within 55 minutes and creating 2.2 xG to their opponents’ 0.7, and they are expected to dominate proceedings here.
Indeed, while only three Serie A teams have averaged a greater possession share than Monza this term, only two have posted lower such figures than Cremonese. The visitors have lost two on the bounce – conceding five goals – since they opened their account for the season with a shock win over Roma. Davide Ballardini’s men have lost five of their last seven in Serie A and are winless on the road all season, so they are clear outsiders for Saturday’s game.
Hosts worth backing for victory
Given Cremonese’s dire record since winning promotion and their failure to kick on since beating Roma last month, backing Monza for victory at home – where they have a good record since Palladino took charge – looks prudent.
Meanwhile, Cremonese have failed to score in three of their last six games, making a routine 2-0 home win a solid correct score prediction.
