Motherwell vs East Stirling Predictions & Betting Tips, Match Previews

This on paper looks like one of the most one-sided ties of the whole Scottish League Cup group stage. East Stirling were relegated out of the Scottish Football League last season following a play-off defeat to Edinburgh City. They are preparing for life in the Lowlands League, where they should at least win a few more games but their League Cup campaign has predictably resulted in two defeats so far. They were beaten 3-1 at Stranraer in their opening game and tasted defeat again at home to Rangers on Friday night losing 3-0.

They face top flight opposition again here in the form of Motherwell and a repeat result is highly likely. The Fir Park club were also beaten by Rangers in their opening game and are most likely now competing to try and be one the best ranked 2nd place sides so they can’t really afford any more slip-ups. They got back on track with a 3-1 win away to Annan Athletic at the weekend with Louis Moult netting two Second Half goals to seal the win.

Motherwell endured a pretty miserable pre-season in truth which included defeats against Arbroath, Cowdenbeath and Hibs and on that evidence they aren’t in great shape going into the new league campaign. However in terms of this match, the gulf in class should still be massive. Motherwell finished in the top six of the Premiership last term and with home advantage should easily dispose of the side that finished bottom of the Scottish Football League again and are no longer even in it following the introduction of a promotion/relegation system.

The hosts could do with a morale boosting win here and it should come without too much trouble against an East Sterling side who don’t have much attacking quality. Therefore consider backing Motherwell to Win to Nil at 21/20.
