Motherwell vs Hamilton Academical Predictions

Motherwell enjoyed a fantastic season last term as they rose from a relegation playoff finish in the 2014/15 campaign to finish 5th in the table. However, their start to the new term indicates that they won’t be able to maintain their form.

They opened the season with a 2-0 defeat at home to Rangers in the League Cup group, although wins in their remaining three matches ensured qualification to the knockout stages. Their Premiership opener saw them beat Kilmarnock away from home, but ever since then it’s been tough going for Motherwell.

The Scottish League Cup was next up, and Celtic ran out 5-0 victors over them to send them crashing out early one. Motherwell then went on to lose against St Johnstone and Rangers in the league before back to back draws against Dundee and Ross County.

This leaves Motherwell five games without a win in all competitions and in 8th position in the Scottish Premiership. They will have to turn it around at some point if they want to remain a top half side in the table.

Hamilton Academical were touted as one of the favourites for relegation at the beginning of this season but,so far, they haven’t done too badly. They made it through their League Cup groups despite a defeat to Ayr United in their first game, and then opened their Premiership campaign with a 1-1 draw at the newly promoted Rangers.

Greenock Morton sent them home from the Scottish League Cup with a 2-1 win after this, and they lost by the same scoreline to Kilmarnock. However, they managed a 1-1 draw at Dundee and then beat Ross County 1-0 at home to earn them their first league win of the season. Hamilton Academical did lose 3-1 at Hearts last weekend, but they held their own for much of the game and only lost it in the final ten minutes.

There are many positives for Hamilton Academical to look towards in these opening stages, but sitting in 9th position in the table is far from a safe place to be.

The visitors will feel they have a great chance of getting something from this game though. Hamilton Academical have only lost two of their last eight meetings with Motherwell and have only lost one of their last six away days in the Scottish Premiership. Motherwell, on the other hand, have only won one of their last five home games in the league and are struggling for form at the moment.

I think odds of 3/4 for a Hamilton Academical Win or Draw Double Chance are excellent value for money, given the hosts’ poor form at the moment, so I’m backing that along with a 1-1 correct score prediction at 5/1.
