New England Revolution vs Chicago Fire Predictions

      • New England Revolution started their season with a loss, being defeated 2-1 by Montreal Impact.
      • Chicago Fire also lost by the same scoreline, being downed by current MLS Cup holders Seattle Sounders.
      • New England had 16 shots last weekend with 37.5% of those being on target.
      • Chicago had 12 attempts but only 25% of those found their way on target.

New England open their home season

New England Revolution will be disappointed with their defeat last weekend with Montreal scoring late on to claim the win. They played well, creating plenty of chances but found themselves on the wrong end of the result. They looked cohesive in attack though which will be encouraging to Bruce Arena.

New England set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation that allowed them to be expansive and use the width of the pitch to attack from. The ability of Gustavo Bou from set pieces looks to be one of the side’s most vital weapons this season and he could form a great partnership with Adam Buksa, who still looks to be finding his feet following his arrival in the off season.

Another away game awaits Chicago Fire

Chicago Fire have started their season with consecutive games on the road, with their opening game of the season seeing them defeated by current MLS Cup holder Seattle Sounders. They come into this game with a new coach, new owner and new identity and they didn’t get off to a bad start with the side only being defeated by an injury time Seattle goal.

Chicago have started the season in a 4-1-4-1 formation that has allowed them to use their four attacking players high up the pitch with Pineda sitting in front of the defence and Fabian Herbers operating box to box. This should see Chicago improve on last season and a playoff place could well be in their future.

Two sides with playoff ambitions clash

Both of these sides got off to losing starts last weekend but both will be encouraged by the performances they put in and will be keen to get that first win under their belt. With both sides looking so good in attack last weekend, we think there could be plenty of chances in what should be an open game. We’re backing both teams to score in this game.

There doesn’t look like much between these two sides and there might just be a single goal that decides this game. New England looked a little more cohesive in attack last weekend, creating more chances and converting more to shots on goals than Chicago and, for that reason, we’re predicting this game finishes 2-1 to New England.
