Newcastle vs Brentford Predictions
- Newcastle had the fifth-best home record in the Premier League last season, winning 11 matches at St James’ Park
- Both teams have scored in four of Brentford’s last five games in all competitions
- Miguel Almiron scored 11 goals in the Premier League last season
Magpies set to get back on track
It has been a seriously underwhelming start to the season for Newcastle United but the recent international break should have done them good and they can get back on track by beating Brentford.
The Magpies defied the odds to finish fourth in the Premier League last season and are preparing for their first Champions League campaign since the 2002-03 season, albeit one which will see them play Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund and Milan in the group stage.
But their league form needs immediate attention with Eddie Howe’s side having followed their 5-1 win over Aston Villa on the opening weekend with three straight defeats.
Their recent run has, however, been incredibly tough with visits to Manchester City and Brighton either side of a home clash with rejuvenated Liverpool.
They lost all of those games but were only beaten by single-goal margins by City and Liverpool and punters should not right them off.
Newcastle were terrific on their own turf last season, winning 11 of their 19 home games in the Premier League, losing just twice and conceding only 14 goals.
They made St James’ Park into a fortress and will want to ensure that is also the case this season, starting with a win over Brentford.
Brentford struggle to turn draws into wins
The visitors also impressed with a top-half finish last term but have made a pretty slow start to the new season with three draws in their opening four games.
The Bees have been held by Tottenham, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth in the league as well as Newport County in the EFL Cup.
They could therefore struggle on the road to Newcastle, who are worth a bet to win, but punters should combine that with both teams to score – which has clicked in Brentford’s last three games.
A 3-1 correct score prediction could also be the way to go.
Almiron fancied to score
Since their cash injection, Newcastle have been cautious about how they spend their money and have focused on player development instead with Miguel Almiron one example of a player who has gone from strength to strength.
The Paraguayan is yet to score this term but was his club’s second top scorer in the Premier League last season behind Callum Wilson with 11 goals and he is worth a bet to score at any time.
