Newcastle and Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Brentford have the striking ability to cause problems for any team, but their away record has been poor this season and, while the Londoners can score, they are likely to be dumped out on Tyneside.

Newcastle 3-1

Reason for tip

The Magpies should be buzzing after their 4-0 win over Leicester in the Premier League on Saturday, so take them to claim a 3-1 victory over the travel-sick Bees.

Newcastle vs Brentford Predictions

  • Both teams have scored in 15 of Brentford’s last 16 matches
  • Newcastle have lost just two of their last 18 games at St James’ Park
  • Six of Brentford’s last seven away games have been losses with more than two goals

Bees’ away record is a big concern

There have been plenty of highlights for Brentford this season – a recent 4-2 home league win over Carabao Cup quarter-final opponents Newcastle was one – but manager Thomas Frank must be tearing his hair out at the lack of progress the Bees have been showing on the road.

A goalless draw at Everton has been the only time they have earned anything on their travels in the Premier League this season, and while a 2-1 loss at Chelsea on Sunday was perhaps no disgrace, it does not bode well for their chances at St James’ Park.

Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa should present the Magpies with a few problems, but it would be a surprise if the Londoners were to secure their place in the semi-finals.

Newcastle strong on own patch

Eddie Howe’s hosts have proved a tough nut to crack on Tyneside with only Brighton and West Ham having won there since January 13.

The Magpies bounced back from their 2-0 reverse to the Hammers in their previous home game to ease past Leicester 4-0 on Saturday.

Brentford should get on the scoresheet as they have in all but two of their away games this season, but Newcastle can come out on top with a 3-1 victory.
