Newcastle vs Chelsea Predictions
Newcastle’s fairly impressive 2-2 draw with Southampton on the opening day of the season seems a lifetime ago. Apart from their goalless draw with Manchester United, it has all been downhill for the Toon Army.
They have lost all but these two Premier League matches, and to cap it off let Sheffield Wednesday get the better of them on on Wednesday as they were knocked out of the Capital One Cup.
Their 2-1 loss at home to Watford last weekend saw them score their first goal in the league since the opening day of the season, and it says a lot about the quality of Newcastle’s squad when their right back is their most dangerous player going forward.
The emergence of Darryl Janmaat can be seen as the only positive so far this season, and the misery is likely to continue when they host Chelsea on Saturday.
Aleksandar Mitrovic has served his suspension and should be back up front for the home side, but Cheikh Tiote, Steven Taylor, Paul Dummet, Emmanuel Riviere, and Sylvain Marveaux are all struggling with injuries.
Diego Costa will be out of action for the visitors as he serves his retrospective suspension after the fiasco against Arsenal last weekend, with Willian and Thibaut Courtois joining him on the sidelines through injury.
Chelsea have finally managed to get their act together and start winning matches after a dreadful start to their Premier League title defence.
They picked up just four points from a possible 15 at the start of the season, but a 4-0 win over Maccabi Tel Aviv seems to have recovered some of their lost confidence.
They beat Arsenal 2-0 last weekend, in the process keeping their first clean sheet of the league domestic season, and followed this up with a 4-1 victory over Walsall in the Capital One Cup.
Radamel Falcao will probably lead the line for the Blues on Saturday, although Loic Remy is also an option. Either way, both impressed in midweek as Falcao made some dangerous runs behind the Walsall defence and Remy snatching a goal.
Chelsea have now scored ten in their last three games, and with defensive problems of their own plaguing them early in the season I think this game could be a goalfest. I still think Chelsea will win it though, and a bet of a Chelsea Win and Over 2.5 Goals at odds of 6/4 look good to me.
