PSV Double Chance (Win or Draw)

      Reason for tip

Newcastle are strong favourites for this clash with PSV but they showed little in Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Premier League basement boys Wolves to suggest they warrant those odds. The visitors have already beaten Liverpool and Napoli in this season’s Champions League and can claim another scalp on Tyneside.

      PSV 2-1

      Reason for tip

With PSV already putting four past Liverpool and hitting Napoli for six in the league phase, there is no reason they can’t score twice against a Newcastle side who shipped two in their last home game. The Magpies are yet to draw a blank in this season’s Champions League, though, so back the hosts to grab a consolation.

      Guus Til To Score Anytime

      Reason for tip

Guus Til has enjoyed a rich vein of form recently, scoring nine goals in his last 11 games. The red-hot midfielder gave PSV the lead in their stunning 4-1 victory at Liverpool and he looks a big price to score for the third Champions League game in a row.

      Newcastle vs PSV Predictions

      • Newcastle have won only three of their last seven games in 90 minutes
      • PSV are unbeaten in 20 away matches, winning each of the last seven
      • Nine of this pair’s 12 combined league-phase games have produced at least three goals

Newcastle need to bounce back after Molineux disappointment

Sunday’s drab 0-0 draw at Premier League basement boys Wolves meant Newcastle’s travel troubles continued over the weekend, so Eddie Howe will be hoping a return to St James’ Park for Wednesday’s Champions League clash with PSV will get his side back to winning ways.

That sounds an easy enough assignment for the Magpies, given they are two points better off than their visitors from Eindhoven, but it is hard to say they aren’t a touch short, especially when looking at the Eredivisie leader’s form.

The reason for Newcastle’s short odds will undoubtedly be their home record, which reads 12 wins, three draws and only four losses for the season, but they managed just two shots on target when losing 2-0 to Manchester City in their last St James’ Park outing and PSV have already proved that cauldron-like atmospheres do not affect their nerves.

Back Bosz’s boys to land another shock result

The Farmers have excelled on their travels for almost a year now, winning 17 and losing none of their last 20 road matches, but it is their most recent Champions League away day which will live long in the memory of those from Eindhoven as PSV rocked up to Anfield as 10-1 outsiders and left as 4-1 victors over Liverpool.

That win followed solid draws at Bayer Leverkusen and Olympiakos in the league phase, in which they have also enjoyed a stunning 6-2 rout of Serie A champions Napoli.

While Newcastle are stumbling through games, needing a 102nd-minute winner to beat Leeds and penalties to see off Bournemouth in the FA Cup before the loss to City and draw with Wolves, PSV are quickly becoming the masters of the upset and another could be on the cards at St James’ Park.

Farmers fancied to edge frantic Tyneside tussle

A PSV win would provide plenty of excitement by itself but, luckily for the neutral, any positive result for the Farmers is likely to arrive in a thriller.

Nine of this pair’s 12 combined league-phase games have featured at least three goals, making a 2-1 away win the correct-score pick at a huge price.

PSV midfielder Guus Til gave his side the lead at Anfield and he may enjoy another productive trip to England. The Dutchman has scored nine goals in his last 11, netting in both of his Champions League appearances in that run.
