Tip Reasoning

  • Lyon have avoided defeat in four of their last five away games, only losing to Paris Saint-Germain during that spell.
  • Nice have failed to win three of their last five games.
  • Karl Toko Ekambi has hit form in the last month, with seven goals in his last seven games for club and country.

Tough to separate closely-matched sides

Two sides currently separated only by goal difference meet at the Allianz Riviera on Sunday and there shouldn’t be too much between Nice and Lyon on the pitch.

Nice flew out of the blocks in August, but have it a flat spot recently and lost for the second time this season last week at Troyes. Les Aiglons conceded 30 goals in their 19 home games last season and, although it looked like Christophe Galtier had put that right earlier in the season, they have had three put past them in the last two at the Allianz.

Lyon have found their rhythm in recent weeks as they juggle Europa League football with their ambition to qualify for the Champions League again, winning four and drawing two of their last six games. They have bags of experience running through the team and put it to use when two goals down to Sparta Prague on Thursday as les Gones eventually won 4-3.

Paqueta can provide focal point for visitors

Peter Bosz looks set to utilise Lucas Paqueta up front against Nice as he is still without the services of Moussa Dembele or Islam Slimani through injury, but the Brazilian has proved a capable focal point in the past.

Lyon have the better likely starting XI on paper and a bit of form behind them, so we don’t think they lose what is probably going to be a tight game decided by which side takes their chances – hence the pick of the visitors in the double chance market.

Karl Toko Ekambi has hit form in the last month, with seven goals in his last seven games for club and country, and is worth a wager to find the net in what we project to be a 1-1 draw. Three of Lyon’s draws so far this season have all been by that scoreline.
