Northampton vs Manchester United Predictions
Northampton Town are having an excellent time of things at the moment. They won promotion from League Two last term and have made a solid start to life in League One. They have also managed to defeat Premier League opposition in West Brom in the League Cup towards the end of August, with them beating them on penalties after a 2-2 draw after extra time.
Saturday saw them lose for just the second time this season though as Chesterfield packed a punch up front and beat them 3-1. This makes it three wins, six draws, and two defeats in their ten outings this season.
Two of these wins have come in recent weeks though as they dispatched of MK Dons and Walsall in the league, with the other being an extra time victory over Barnsley in the first round of the League Cup. Now they face the much tougher task of a visiting Manchester United side.
The visitors are having a torrid couple of weeks though. Their perfect start to the season was ended as arch rivals Manchester City came to Old Trafford and left with a deserved 2-1 victory. They were toothless in midweek as Feyenoord beat them 1-0 in the Netherlands, and Jose Mourinho made it three defeats on the trot for the first time since 2002 when they lost 3-1 at Watford on Sunday.
It was a deserved defeat against a very impressive Watford side. The visiting Manchester United only had a brief spell of sustained pressure on the Watford goal, and whilst the scoreline doesn’t fully reflect the course of the action not many could deny that Watford were the better team.
Mourinho is almost certain to make a host of changes coming into this League Cup match, with the majority of the more experienced players expected to be left out and a team made up of youngsters likely to come in as replacements.
In all honesty they should have no troubles against Northampton Town. The youngsters coming in will be chomping at the bit knowing that the faltering starting 11 of Manchester United has places up for grabs. The unstoppable Marcus Rashford could play again as well, which could spell disaster for a Northampton Town side who shipped three at the weekend and have conceded eight in their last four.
Mourinho will be desperate to get back to winning ways as well, so I think odds of 1.950 for a Manchester United -1.5 Asian Handicap Win look decent value for money, and I’m going for that along with a 3-0 correct score prediction at 15/2.
