Over 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Middlesbrough should be confident that they can get something from their trip to Carrow Road after winning both their Championship games without conceding, but the Canaries possess plenty of attacking strengths themselves so there could be a few goals.

Middlesbrough 2-1

Reason for tip

Norwich have already tasted league defeat on their own patch this season after they fell to a 2-1 loss to Millwall and Boro, who have started their Championship campaign in fine fettle, can win by a similar scoreline.

Norwich vs Middlesbrough Predictions

  • Only champions Leeds scored more home goals in last season’s Championship than Norwich’s tally of 52.
  • Middlesbrough have lost on two of their last 12 visits to Carrow Road.
  • Seven of Norwich’s last eight matches have featured at least three goals.

Boro can put EFL Cup shock behind them

Plenty of football followers raised their eyebrows when Middlesbrough were beaten 4-0 at home to League One Doncaster in the EFL Cup, but there has been little wrong with Rob Edwards’s side in the Championship, where they have won both of their matches without conceding.

Edwards made five changes for that cup game, but they had one of last weekend’s most eye-catching results when they won 3-0 at Millwall, even if two late goals gave the final scoreline a rather flattering look.

However, Teessiders will be generally content with the way the team has adapted to life under the former Luton boss and they look like they are going to be back in the mix again this season.

Sargent is a big threat for Canaries

Norwich have won just twice in their last 12 home games against Middlesbrough and they tasted defeat at Carrow Road on the opening weekend when they were sunk 2-1 by Millwall.

A League Cup success over Watford and last week’s win at Portsmouth, both by 2-1 scorelines, have steadied the ship and they should be confident they can find the net in front of their own fans, particularly as the talented Josh Sargent has netted in all three of their outings this term.

All but one of their last eight games have featured at least three goals and this could follow suit, but Boro are perhaps displaying signs that they can be the more consistent outfit this term, so correct-score enthusiasts are pointed towards a 2-1 away victory.
