      Notts County vs Macclesfield Predictions

Notts County sit second from bottom in League Two having picked up just nineteen points from their twenty-three games so far, and on Wednesday play host to last placed Macclesfield. The visitors are two points behind their guests and three points off safety, but with three wins from their last six matches have form in their favour heading into Wednesday’s trip to Nottingham.

Grimsby Town hit Notts County for four on at the weekend, starting with a fourth minute strike from Clifton. Davis scored the next two goals for the hosts, one in the thirty-seventh minute to put Grimsby 2-0 up at the break, and the other shortly after the hour mark to increase the home sides advantage to three. With two minutes left on the clock Thomas scored the games final goal to wrap up an impressive 4-0 win for Grimsby. Notts County can take some positives from their performance as they had 57% of the overall possession, had ten shots, and nine corners, but were let down in defence.

Macclesfield Town had 53% of the possession and restricted their hosts to no shots on target during the ninety minutes, but couldn’t make the most of their own chances and the game ended goalless. Macclesfield had eight shots during the ninety minutes, four of which went on target, but good defending and goalkeeping from the visitors meant both teams would share the spoils. Macclesfield missed out on a chance to go level with Notts County on nineteen points, and would have moved ahead of Wednesday’s hosts if they had managed to have won thanks to a better goal difference.

These two clubs met for their reverse league fixture back in October a single goal proved enough to settle the three points in favour of Notts County. The teams went in goalless at the break and that’s the way the game appeared to be headed in the second half as well, until County were awarded a late penalty which veteran striker Stead converted to hand the visitors all three points. A draw would have been a fair result based on the balance of play, but County took their big chance when it arrived and its those situations that so often decide matches.

Macclesfield Town head into Wednesday’s game as the form favourites with three wins, one draw, and two defeats from their last six matches, with Notts County only winning once during that period, drawing twice, and losing three times. Hemmings and Stead joint top score for the hosts with six goals each in League Two so far, while Rose and Smith have managed three goals apiece for Macclesfield.

We’re confident that under 2.5 goals will be scored on Wednesday, and have backed Notts County to claim a narrow 1-0 win. Six of the last seven meetings between Notts County and Macclesfield have produced under 2.5 goals. Four of Notts County’s and all of Macclesfield’s last six matches have produced under 2.5 goals. Notts County won their last home game, while Macclesfield have lost their last two away games and were expecting that to remain the case on Wednesday.
