Notts County 3-1

Reason for tip

Salford allowed a league-high 3.94 expected goals against Crewe and could be in trouble if they display similar tendencies at Meadow Lane. They created almost as much as the Magpies did in their 1-1 draw with Newport so they can score in a probable away defeat. The Ammies conceded multiple goals in four of their five away friendlies too, mainly against non-league opponents, so a 3-1 loss is tipped.

Magpies and Ammies seek lift-off

Notts County and Salford City will both be searching for their first win of the League Two season when they meet at Meadow Lane on Saturday.

Martin Paterson’s side showed resilience in their opening 1-1 draw at Newport, coming from behind thanks to a Jodi Jones penalty. But defensive frailties—especially from set pieces—remain a concern for the Magpies, who have lost four of their last five meetings with Salford.

The Ammies were undone 3-1 at home by Crewe Alexandra, despite a bright start and a missed penalty from Ben Woodburn. Karl Robinson’s men were punished for defensive lapses and now sit 22nd in the table.

Paterson’s new-look Notts side includes summer signings Kelle Roos, Barry Cotter, and Matthew Dennis, while Matty Platt impressed at the back.

Robinson’s rebuild faces early pressure

Salford’s manager Karl Robinson has overseen a major squad overhaul, with seven arrivals and 15 departures. Kadeem Harris, Jorge Grant, and Kallum Cesay showed promise, with Harris netting their only goal and Cesay providing the assist.

But the Ammies allowed the highest expected goals (xG) of any team in League Two on Saturday – a staggering 3.94. Their defensive vulnerabilities could be exposed by a confident Notts attack.

Jones and Dennis offer pace and precision up front, and if Notts can tighten up at the back, they may finally break their Meadow Lane hoodoo against Salford. With Salford’s pace in transition and Notts still adjusting to Paterson’s system, this clash could be wide open.
