Odd
    Borussia Dortmund

      Tip Reasoning

Odd are trying to make it into the group stages of the Europa League for the first time ever, but have arguably got the worst team to try and get past in the entire draw.

Borussia Dortmund are regulars in the Champions League, but after a truly dreadful start to last season’s Bundesliga campaign they were fortunate to make it into the Europa League in the end.

They finished in 7th position in the Bundesliga, a position which belies the quality they undoubtedly possess within their squad.

Odd finished in 3rd in the Norwegian Tippeligaen, behind Molde and Rosenborg. This marks their best league finishing position since they returned to the top flight back in 2007.

Norway are actually nearing the end of their domestic campaign at the moment, having already played 20 league matches. Odd are currently in 5th position, with 4 points separating them from 4th place and 10 games remaining in the season.

They have won 3 of their last 5 matches in all competition, scoring 15 goals in total and conceding 7 at the other end. Sounds like an entertaining league right?

While Odd have already played 20 domestic match this season, the Bundesliga is in line with the rest of Europe and have only played their first game of the new season so far.

Borussia Dortmund won their opening league match, an emphatic 4-0 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach which saw goals from Marco Reus, Pierre-Emerick Aubemayang, and a brace from Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

This is an excellent start to the campaign, and the 4-0 drubbing of Monchengladbach made it 7 wins on the trot for Dortmund.

Judging by their performance on Saturday, I would expect them to be rejoining the Champions League next season, but to do so by winning the Europa League would make it all the more sweet.

These 2 sides have never met before, but it’s obvious that Borussia Dortmund are the overwhelming favourites to win this one.

I think Dortmund will go for a big win on Thursday so they can sit back and relax in the return leg. Their 4 goals scored past the Monchengladbach defence could definitely be repeated, as the Odd defence is nowhere near as strong. Odds of 13/10 for a Borussia Dortmund -2 Handicap Win look very fair to me.
