Oldham vs Walsall Predictions

Oldham started their league season badly with a 3-0 loss to Millwall. In reaction to that opening day defeat, they came out all-guns-blazing on Wednesday against a Wigan side who’ve just gained promotion to The Championship. Surprising many, Oldham won the game against Wigan 2-1 and should be rejuvenated, in terms of confidence, ahead of this fixture.

Walsall were the complete opposite. They won their opening league game 3-1 against AFC Wimbledon, thus meaning they went into a mid-week EFL Cup fixture with boosted morale. They played pretty well in the game, but were forced into extra time, before going down 2-0 against a resilient Yeovil side.

From a betting point of view, the way to play this one is to take ‘Both Team to Score’ at odds of 4/5.

Oldham have shown somewhat contrasting performances in their two competitive matches this season, but there has been one constant. That is their inability to defend. They conceded three on the opening weekend and despite only conceding one in mid-week, they looked weak at the back. The hosts will be keen to play positively in front of their own fans and you’d expect them to score, but keeping out the visitors at the other end is likely to prove too hard.

Walsall are in a similar predicament. They’re a good side going forward, but are also far from sturdy at the back. Against a home side who will be looking for a win, they are likely to enjoy plenty of space on the break and thus they too can find the net here.
