Philadelphia Union vs San Jose Earthquakes Predictions
Philadelphia Union have had an excellent start to the new MLS season. They ended last campaign second from bottom in the conference after a very poor season, but a vast improvement has been made since then and they currently find themselves vying for the top spot in the Eastern division.
They come into this game in 2nd position, one point behind Montreal Impact but with a game in hand on them. Below them Toronto FC sit in 3rd, one point adrift of them.
So far this season Philadelphia Union haven’t actually managed to put a good streak of results together, but their ability to bounce back from defeat means that they have avoided any poor streaks as well. They are yet to remain winless in back to back games this season, and their 2-0 win against New York City last Saturday made it four wins and three defeats from their opening seven games.
All of these defeats have come away from home as well, and at home they have won all three matches, scored seven goals, and conceded just once. This won’t make good reading for the travelling San Jose Earthquakes fans, who have already seen their team lose twice on the road this season.
To be fair to the visitors these are their only two defeats from their eight matches so far, with two draws and four wins making up the rest of their results to put them in 5th position in the tough Western Conference.
Five of their eight matches have been at home though, and on the road they are yet to win a match, losing to LA Galaxy and Portland Timbers either side of a 2-2 draw at FC Dallas.
San Jose Earthquakes have been shown to be defensively frail away from home. They have conceded eight goals in their three away games, and they are coming up against an in form Philadelphia Union side who are rock solid at the back at the Talen Energy Stadium. This gives the hosts a big edge in my opinion, and odds of 5/4 for a Philadelphia Union win look good to me. I’m also going for a 2-0 correct score prediction at 11/1.
