Port Vale vs Colchester Predictions
- Port Vale are unbeaten in four games, wining three of those.
- Colchester have struggled for consistency recently, winning and losing two games in their last four.
- Port Vale have scored 43 times this season, an average of 1.3 goals per game.
- Colchester average 1.42 goals per game, scoring 47 goals in 33 games.
Can Port Vale continue their great form and jump into the playoffs?
Port Vale have been in great form in recent weeks, winning three of their last four and joining the clubs vying for the playoffs. Their recent form has seen them beat fellow playoff hopefuls Forest Green, Northampton and Exeter and they are full of confidence coming into another game against a team hoping to be playing in League One next season.
Vale have averaged 1.3 goals per game this season but this has increased to 1.6 goals per game in recent weeks as they begin to find form. Defensively they’ve been a little weak over the course of the season, conceding more than any other side currently vying for the playoffs but they’ve only conceded four in their last five games as they improve across the pitch.
Will Colchester continue their inconsistent form?
Colchester have exchanged wins and losses over the past four weeks, beating Plymouth and Swindon but being defeated by Grimsby and Cambridge. It’s been these disappointing results that have stopped the side from really pushing for the top three since the new year and they will be keen to pick up three points to consolidate their place in the top six.
The U’s have scored 47 times this season, an average of 1.42 goals per game this season but over the past five games this has risen to 1.8 goals as the Colchester attack finds its form. Defensively the side have been a little under par though, conceding an average of 1.2 goals per game over the past few weeks compared to their season average of 0.93.
Which side will gain a playoff advantage?
These two sides have both been in reasonable form of late and both have a lot to play for as the season enters its final third. With both teams likely to create plenty of chances and both performing above their usual level in attack, we’re expecting both teams to score in this match.
There’s a lot at stake in this match with the playoff picture so tight this season but we think there will be a winner this weekend. Goals have been coming from across the pitch for Port Vale and we expect them to continue their great run and pick up another victory here with a 2-1 scoreline.
