      PSG vs Guingamp Predictions

PSG beat Amiens 3-0 at the weekend in a match that took them a while to get going. They were held by the relegation-threatened club for 57 minutes before Edinson Cavani’s penalty and Khaled Adenon’s red card allowed Paris to dominate the latter stages of the match. PSG had almost three quarters of the possession but it was another slacking performance from the champions. Towards the end of last year they drew twice with Bordeaux and Strasbourg and just last week they were beaten by the league’s bottom club Guingamp, the team they face in this upcoming match. Complacency has absolutely seeped into this PSG side with Thomas Tuchel eager stamp this out.

Paris’ numbers remain fantastic though with five wins in their last six games, scoring 15 and conceding four. They are always going to be dominant going forward but their defence has slackened in recent weeks, resulting in them failing to keep clean sheets against the likes of Orleans and Guingamp. With this game at the Stade de Princes, PSG have a great opportunity to blow Guingamp out of the water but the rock bottom side have little to lose, which could result in a surprise victory.

Guingamp have quite a few reasons to go into this PSG game with hope actually after they stunned high-flying Rennes 2-1 at the Stade de Roudourou. Felix Eboa Eboa and Lucas Deaux got the goals which gave Jocelyn Gourvennec’s side a much needed win, lifting them up to within one point of 19th placed Monaco. We now have a fantastic relegation battle on our hands as Guingamp looked dead and buried in the early weeks of the season. They have really kicked on under the new manager and will be looking for another historic win over the Parisians.

Guingamp have actually won five of their last six matches in all competitions, but unfortunately for them only two of them have been in the league. They have scored ten goals and conceded five in this time which has been a really purple patch for the squad. They are definitely on the up and with them beating PSG just a few weeks ago, it’s hard to say they don’t have a chance of a real upset.

Guingamp have won their last four away matches and face a PSG side who have only lost one of their last 15 home matches; that defeat was at the hands of Guingamp. Guingamp have improved drastically in recent weeks with a reinvigorated attack and defence. The back-line will have their work cut out for them though as they they have conceded in each of their last four matches and will be facing the league’s top attacking side. However, PSG have kept just three clean sheets in their last nine games, a horrible record for the champions, and with Guingamp in fine scoring form, and having beaten them two weeks ago, we’re going to back the league’s bottom side to get on the scoresheet here. We think that Guingamp could also nick a draw.

PSG’s squad have been on a ‘training’ camp in Qatar for most of the week, complete with signature sessions, tours and a camel race. They have been doing training sessions but the atmosphere has been very jovial, not what you would expect ahead of a crucial Ligue 1 match. As a result, we’re backing a 1-1 draw here. PSG were so complacent against Guingamp at home a few weeks ago and with the fatigue of travel, plus the minor jet lag, we think that Guingamp are better equipped ahead of this match which is why we’re backing a draw.
