PSG vs Juventus Predictions
- PSG have won 24 of their last 30 home Champions League games
- The hosts have scored at least three times in six of their seven matches this term
- Messi has scored 72 goals in 69 Champions League group stage starts
- Juve have won once in their last four games and lost 3-0 in their last European game
Statement night for PSG
There’s no hiding that the Champions League is the main focus for PSG, given how they’ve surpassed their domestic opponents. However, the French giants have had an overhaul in mentality since last season, one they’re hoping will transfer over to Europe after a great start in Ligue 1.
They already had a fantastic record in the competition, as PSG have only lost one of their last 30 home games in the Champions League group stage, winning 24 of them. However, Tuesday’s clash with Juventus will be the mark this refocused side are judged against.
Disciplined hosts look lethal
Christophe Galtier has been brought into PSG to end an era that their own chairman branded “flashy”. The more grounded choice of manager has made PSG a scary sight this term, with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe jumping to the top of the Ligue 1 scoring charts with seven goals each after only six matches.
PSG started the season by winning 4-0 against French Cup holders Nantes in the Super Cup, while they’ve gone on to win five of their first six Ligue 1 games. They’ve racked up 24 goals across those six matches, scoring at least three times in six of their first seven in all competitions.
While many will write off the French side’s achievements in Ligue 1, this isn’t a top-level side they meet on Tuesday night. Juve were hammered 4-0 by Chelsea in their big group stage clash last year, before exiting in the first knockout round. After PSG’s ruthless start, Juve could be in trouble in this clash.
Another big night for Messi
While his teammates are hogging the goals so far, Lionel Messi’s Champions League record should see him hurt Juventus on Tuesday. Messi has scored 72 goals in 69 starts in group stage matches. His overall haul of 76 group stage goals is an all-time competition record, with five coming for PSG last season, each of which were scored at the Parc des Princes.
Messi is worth backing to score again this week, while the rest of their big three should get in on the act. Given PSG’s big victories this term, they should have little trouble brushing by a Juventus side who have failed to win three of their last four games.
The visitors were beaten 3-0 by Villarreal in their last European game and PSG look set to run rampant against a side who have regressed from Europe’s elite. I’m backing PSG to show their quality with a big win, so back over 2.5 goals for the home side and a 3-0 victory.
