PSV Reserves vs AZ Reserves Predictions

Jong PSV rarely disappoint when it comes to goals and entertainment, and it was the same story last Friday evening in Waalwijk as Dennis Haar’s charges beat RKC 3-5 in an absolute thriller. It was a welcome return to winning ways after two draws and a defeat from their previous three league outings, and they’ll be confident of building on it this Saturday as they take on a Jong AZ side who have won just once this season.

Jong PSV came out on the right end of a goal fest in Waalwijk last week, as double salvos from Joel Piroe and Cody Gakpo helped Dennis Haar’s side on their way to a dramatic 3-5 success against RKC.

Unbelievably, there have now been 52 goals scored in Eindhoven’s 13 league games this term with 26 flying in at each end, and their triumph in Waalwijk was the fifth time this season that they’ve been involved in a match with five or more goals.

With Jong AZ not falling far behind Haar’s side in the entertainment stakes (18 scored and 26 against in their 13 league outing this season), we can surely expect an open and attacking contest at De Herdgang this Saturday.

11th placed Jong PSV head into the match as solid odds-on favourites, and it’s easy to see why, based on the fact they’ve collected 11 points from six home matches this term and hold a ten point advantage over 16th placed Jong AZ in the table.

PSV’s only defeat at De Herdgang this season came a fortnight ago when they were turned over 0-1 by Den Bosch and that result is hardly a disgrace considering The Blue White Dragons are 3rd in the table and playing some magnificent football under Wil Boessen.

So PSV should be confident of returning to winning ways here, with opponents Jong AZ winless on the road in 2018/19 and struggling overall after just one victory from 13.

Martin Haar’s men were taken apart 1-3 by Oss in Alkmaar last week, as Ferdy Druijf’s eye for goal once again proved immaterial.

Druijf now has a dozen to his name this term, meaning he’s accounted for 66% of his team’s goals in the campaign to date. That’s a fairly damning stat for his peers, who have consistently failed to build on his efforts to secure results.

And AZ have significant problems in defence too. They’ve not kept a single clean sheet in their 13 outings thus far and have conceded two goals on average per game.

That spells danger ahead of this weekend’s clash with Jong PSV’s attackers in such fine form, and although the hosts have an equally poor defensive record overall this season, their rear guard has in fact shipped just six times from their half dozen starts at De Herdgang.

Plenty in favour of PSV then here, despite Jong AZ winning both Eerste Divisie encounters between the pair in 2017/18, so we’re going for a home win with over 2.5 goals to be scored and 3-1 in the correct score market.
