PSV -1

Reason for tip

Vitesse are yet to win since the return of the Eredivisie action, yet PSV know that a big win will see them strengthen their claims to a 25th title with Feyenoord and Ajax playing each other on Sunday.

PSV 3-1

Reason for tip

Vitesse have scored ten goals across their last three home meetings against Vitesse and they could rack up another big total against the visitor, who are winless in five league games.

PSV vs Vitesse Predictions

  • Six of PSV’s ten Eredivisie wins this season came with a 2+ goal margin.
  • Five of Vitesse’s seven league defeats this term also saw multi-goal margins.
  • PSV have scored ten goals across the last three home H2H encounters.

A must-win game for PSV

Drawing both of their games since the Eredivisie restart, PSV have been cut five points adrift from league leaders Feyenoord ahead of this round. However with Ajax and Feyenoord contesting De Klassieker this weekend, PSV know that victory will either see them leapfrog Ajax or close the gap on Feyenoord.

Luckily for PSV, they have a much easier game than the other two ‘Big Three’ sides as they welcome an out-of-sorts Vitesse side winless across their last five league games. That run has seen Phillip Cocu’s side drop to within three points of the relegation zone, a worrying trend indeed for a side that have not played outside of the top-flight since 1988/89.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men have the second-best Eredivisie home record heading into this round (W6, D1, L1), yet they are at risk of recording their worst winless run since a four-game streak back in 2019 should they fail to win a fourth Eredivisie game in succession here.

Stick with Ruud’s boys

Although PSV have some injury woes with the likes of Kjell Peersman, Philipp Max, Sávio, Fodé Fofana, Mauro Junior and Olivier Boscagli all out of action, we think they should have more than enough quality to stop their mini-rot against Vitesse.

As such, we’re backing PSV in the -1 handicap market at a relatively short, yet fair price. To finish off our predictions, a small stakes play on a  3-1 home win looks like it has a solid enough chance given PSV’s ten-goal return across the last three home H2Hs.
