Queretaro vs Atlas Predictions
Saturday’s Liga MX Clausura action sees Queretaro and Atlas doing battle at the Estadio La Corregidora. The hosts are expected to pick up all 3 point with relatively few issues against an Atlas team arriving short on confidence.
Queretaro performed quite well in the Apertura phase of the season, making it into the play-offs via an 8th placed finish prior to losing to eventual runners up Cruz Azul. Sneaking into the top 8 is again the aim for Los Gallos in this closing phase but it remains to be seen how the team will cope with key goalkeeper Tiago Volpi’s departure to Sao Paulo.
Indeed, Volpi had established himself as one of the division’s best stoppers during his spell with the club and will certainly be missed, but the hosts are far from a one man band and will be looking to kick the second half of the season off with a win on Saturday. Having won 8 of their last 12 home games, confidence can be high in doing exactly that; especially as Atlas are the visitors.
The visitors were simply atrocious in the Apertura and whilst they aren’t in any danger of being relegated, thanks to the position Veracruz find themselves in, Los Zorros have to be regarded as one of Liga MX’s weaker sides; a statement that doesn’t look like changing any time soon.
Atlas took just 11 points from 17 matches over the first half of the season and having not won any of their last 17 away league games, it’s apparent they have deep-rooted issues when playing on the road; something that is a real concern coming into this game. Having lost 13 of said trips and conceding at least twice in their last 6 away league fixtures, you really do have to fear for the side on Saturday.
Taking all of the above into consideration, you do have to wonder why Queretaro are at such an appealing price to win the game. Whilst any team would miss the quality of Tiago Volpi, the hosts still have some good players in their ranks and should have too much for an Atlas team in poor condition.
As such, we’re more than happy to back a home win and feel doing so provides excellent value. Atlas inspire no confidence whatsoever on their travels and we think they’ll fall to yet another defeat on enemy territory; this time via a 2-0 margin.
