Rangers vs Crvena Zvezda Predictions

  • Both teams have scored in four of Red Star’s last five Europa League away games.
  • Rangers have failed to keep a clean sheet in ten of their last 14 home Europa League matches.
  • Red Star midfielder Mirko Ivanic has scored 11 league goals in 26 appearances and three Europa League goals (in eight) this season.

Stankovic’s staunch Serbs will be tough to beat

Crvena Zvezda (Red Star Belgrade) will make it very hard for Rangers to repeat what they did to Borussia Dortmund last month when they travel too Ibrox for Thursday’s Europa League last-16 first leg.

Dejan Stankovic is a crafty coach who has overseen two Serbian title wins, one with an unbeaten season, a domestic cup success and came close to knocking AC Milan out of this competition over two legs a year ago. Red Star lost out on the away goals rule after a 2-2 home draw in the second leg and remarkably had to finish both games with ten men.

The Serbian champions arrive in Glasgow with great form and at least as much of a recent European pedigree as their hosts, who made it through to the last 16 under Steven Gerrard last term.

Ivanic is great value in anytime GS betting

Red Star romped to a 5-0 home win at the weekend with attacking midfielder Mirko Ivanic again on the scoresheet. The dangerous Montenegrin has hit 11 league and three Europa League goals in a combined 34 appearances, marking him out as a ‘one in three’ man and a bit of value at around 15/4 in the anytime goalscorer betting.

Red Star have scored in nine of their last ten Europa League matches and all of their three group assignments of 2021, two of which finished 1-1. This could well conclude along the same lines with Rangers having conceded at least once in ten of their last 14 Europa League contests at Ibrox.

The Light Blues can be trusted to get on the scoresheet themselves with a record of scoring in 13 of their last 15 Europa League home games while, although defensively sound domestically, Red Star have conceded in seven of their last ten in this competition.
