Rangers vs Hibernian Predictions
- Hibernian have avoided defeat in each of their first four Premiership fixtures of the new campaign.
- Rangers have failed to win seven of their last eight matches in all competitions.
- Rangers haven’t beaten Hibs in any of the clubs’ last three encounters.
Rangers’ misery to continue at Ibrox
Rangers’ early-season crisis deepened last weekend when the Gers stuttered badly in a 2-0 reverse to Hearts against the backdrop of a toxic atmosphere at Ibrox Stadium.
With that defeat, under-fire manager Russell Martin became the first Rangers head coach in 47 years to fail to win any of their five league games with the club, and with Gers’ fans increasingly furious, a parting of the ways between the 39-year-old and the Glasgow giants is starting to feel inevitable.
Martin has masterminded only three wins in 12 matches for Rangers since his appointment in early June and though his ailing troops dug out a point in a lacklustre Glasgow Derby at Celtic (0-0) before the international break, the pressure increased again following last weekend’s limp showing against Hearts.
Martin took his players to Loch Lomond for some wild swimming in a team-building exercise on Monday, though we think Hibernian can sink Rangers in the cup on Saturday.
Hibernian will feel they are visiting Ibrox at an ideal juncture this weekend. Still unbeaten after four Premiership fixtures, Hibs won 2-0 on their last visit to the blue half of Glasgow in April and with Rangers in disarray, a repeat result could be in the offing.
Hibs have avoided defeat in their previous three meetings with Rangers overall and they’ve been admirably consistent on the domestic front under David Gray for an extended period now, losing only two of their last 26 Premiership fixtures since mid-December last year.
With Martin on the cusp of the sack, Rangers cannot be backed with any confidence at present and instead, Hibernian offer plenty of appeal in the double chance market at even money. The Gers conceded twice at home to Hearts last weekend and Hibs can deliver a similar double blow, so a 2-1 away win is our correct score prediction.
