Rangers have a deficit to recover

It is fair to say that things aren’t going to plan for new Rangers boss Derek McInnes just yet after a winless start to his tenure.

The Gers have just one point to show from two Premiership games after a 2-1 loss at home to Hibs over the weekend, and they head into Thursday’s second leg trailing Jagiellonia Bialystok 2-1 in their Europa League qualifier.

Only a win will do for Rangers if they are to reach the Europa League and they should be able to respond. Results haven’t matched performances so far for the Ibrox side and they were particularly unlucky to lose at the weekend against Hibs, but the best betting angle looks to be backing both teams to score.

Rangers have seen goals at both ends in all three of their games this season and both teams have now scored in each of their last 11 competitive games stretching back into the previous campaign.

Jagiellonia have scored in three of their four games and have just one clean sheet. The Polish side showed they were capable of causing Rangers problems in the first leg and are unlikely to sit back and try to defend a slender lead in Glasgow, so they should be able to get on the scoresheet against a suspect Gers defence.

Rangers claimed four points from their final two league phase games last season and can get the win they need on the night. However, extra time may be required and a 2-1 win for the hosts seems a reasonable correct score prediction. Rangers will be keen to finish the job inside 90 minutes but they have lacked a cutting edge in the early stages of the season, and Jagiellonia won’t take too many risks even if they are a goal behind late on due to their first leg lead so both sides may settle for an additional period.

Thelo Aasgaard is the only Rangers player who has managed to score so far this season as their other two goals have been own-goals. The Norway international also scored in his only appearance for his country at the World Cup and was on target in pre-season, so he is undoubtedly the in-form man in an otherwise stuttering Gers attack. Aasgaard looks the standout contender for an anytime effort on Thursday.
