Tip Reasoning

  • Rangers have won 26 of their last 29 home games in all competitions stretching back to the start of last season.
  • Malmo could only manage draws away to Riga (1-1) and HJK (2-2) in the previous qualifying rounds.

Rangers to put best foot forward this Tuesday night

Despite defeat in Sweden last week and a shock 1-0 reverse against Dundee United in the SPL on Saturday, Rangers are backed to turn their tie against Malmo around when the sides clash in this Tuesday’s second leg at Ibrox.

It’s undoubtedly been one of the toughest weeks of Steven Gerrard’s successful tenure at the club and there certainly can’t be any excuses for their weekend slump against an inspired Dundee United outfit at Tannadice.

Nevertheless, that result marked Gers’ only league defeat in 41 and it’s highly likely that Gerrard’s squad were still stewing after their 2-1 first leg loss in Malmo.

Fortunately for Rangers, Steven Davis’ injury time goal has kept them in the contest, and we can surely expect a much improved display from the SPL champions this Tuesday.

Malmo are clearly a decent unit, though the Swedish champions aren’t as formidable on the road where they only managed draws against Riga (1-1) and HJK (2-2) in the previous qualifying rounds – teams considerably weaker than Rangers.

Rangers have won 26 of their last 29 starts at Ibrox stretching back to the start of last season and they won four and drew one of their six UEFA Europa League home matches last term, including victories over the likes of Galatasaray (2-1) and Antwerp (5-2).

On home soil, we fancy Gers to be too strong for the Swedes this week and they should be fired up following their recent set-backs. We’re backing Rangers to win on the night and our 2-0 correct score prediction will see Steven Gerrard’s men through to the Play-off round where they would face either Olympiakos or Ludogorets.
