      Reading vs Brentford Predictions

This is the 3rd game of Brian McDermott’s 2nd spell at the Madejski Stadium. Both matches so far have ended 1-0 with Reading beating Blackburn but losing to Wolves on Boxing Day. They are currently 11th and 7 points off the play-offs but only 3 points behind opponents Brentford.

The Bees have been in pretty good form, losing just 1 of their last 8 and they drew 0-0 on Boxing Day against high-flying Brighton. They average over 2 points per game from their last 12 and are making their way up the table into play-off contention again.

Certainly of the two sides Brentford are in much the better form and this will be a tough match for the hosts. Reading have lost 5 of their last 6 matches and while Brentford have taken 25 points from their last 12 matches, Reading have picked up just 9 points and have slipped into mid-table.

Dean Smith is just continuing the good work done by Lee Carsley at the West London club and given those stats, Brentford look really good value at 7/10 to at least avoid defeat in this match.

McDermott did an incredible job at Reading last time around and he has inherited a pretty strong squad but one that is low on confidence it would seem and are struggling for goals having netted just twice in their last 5 matches. Brentford had scored 10 in 4 prior to their Boxing Day draw but do also concede a fair few.

Prior to the appointment of McDermott, Brentford may have fancied winning this but the new man seems to have got a reaction out of his players and the Royals were a bit unfortunate to lose at Molineux. Therefore a draw is perhaps the most likely outcome here and you can back it to finish 1-1 at 5/1.
