Real Madrid vs Deportivo La Coruna Predictions

Florentino Perez wielded the axe on Rafa Benitez on Monday and swiftly announced Real Madrid reserve team boss and club legend Zidane as his replacement. His appointment should help calm the mood of discontent on the terraces but still represents a big gamble given Zizou’s lack of experience in management and given he didn’t exactly set the world on fire in his role as Real Madrid Castilla Head Coach.

He will though command the immediate respect of the dressing room and although he isn’t known as much of an inspirational talker, he is the sort of man whose mere presence could help get something extra out of these Real Madrid players and they should land 3 points in this game.

Deportivo are having a good season though and won’t make it easy for them by any means. The Galicians have only suffered 1 defeat in their last 12 matches but that was last time out in the league against Villarreal when they lost 2-1 via a last minute penalty.

They have only lost once away from home all season and drew 2-2 at the Camp Nou only last month. They have scored in 9 of their 11 away matches although have only won 1 of their last 7 matches in all competitions and it would be a surprise if they were to maintain their current top 8 position deep into the 2nd half of this season.

Real Madrid’s home form hasn’t really been the problem apart from that awful showing in El Clasico. They come into this game having won their last 4 at home, incredibly averaging over 6 goals per game in that period. They are unlikely to score that many against a solid Depor unit but they should have enough to win even though they have conceded goals in all of their last 5 at home in the league.

4 of those matches still resulted in wins and backing Real Madrid to win and both teams to score at 7/5 looks like a really good bet here.

There is often value to be found in backing Real Madrid to win 3-1 and they have won by that margin in 3 of their last 10 matches in the league. At 10/1 you can back a repeat here and that looks like a decent punt and would represent a good start for Zidane in the top job at the Bernabeu.
