Real Madrid vs Deportivo La Coruna Predictions

It has been close to the perfect 2016 for Zinedine Zidane and Real Madrid. This is their final league game of the year and victory will ensure they jet off to Japan for the FIFA World Club Cup with at least a 6 point advantage at the top of La Liga. They are unbeaten in 39 games in all competitions now and it’s very hard to see that not becoming 40 as they take on a Depor side that they boast a very strong recent record against.

Deportivo La Coruna have struggled badly this season on their travels, where they average just 0.43 points per game. Only two sides have worse away records than them. Defensively they’ve been far too easy to break down at times and they’ve conceded exactly 2 goals per game on their travels and 1.71 overall, which is among the worst defensive records in the division.

With Real Madrid averaging 2.64 goals per game, it seems likely that Los Blancos will just have far too much firepower for the Galicians and will create more than enough chances to win the game. Karim Benzema signalled his return to form with a brace in midweek in the Champions League and he should get lots more service here, so backing Benzema to score twice or more at 5/2 looks like a good bet.

With Real Madrid available at 1/10 with some bookies, there’s not much point backing them to win outright though and you can get much more value by adding a ‘both teams to score’ leg on. Real Madrid have been struggling to keep clean sheets all season. They’ve managed it only once at the Bernabeu in La Liga this term, with both teams scoring in 86% of their home matches. Both teams have scored in 15 of their last 17 games in all competitions with even the weaker sides usually getting on the score-sheet against them.

Depor have just started looking a bit more lively in the final third too. They were surprise 5-1 winners against Real Sociedad on Monday night. Both teams have scored in all of their last 6 matches in La Liga so the stats certainly suggest we’ll see goals at both ends here but clearly the hosts should have the edge.

Therefore, backing Real Madrid to win and both teams to score at 7/5 looks to offer great value.
