Real Zaragoza vs Osasuna Predictions

The Monday night clash in the Spanish Segunda Division sees two sides with top flight ambitions meet. Both clubs have featured heavily in the top flight in the non too distant past but right now neither set of supporters will be particularly content with life. Both clubs hover in the middle reaches of the Segunda and there are several sides who look more capable promotion contenders.

Zaragoza have been operating at this level for what must seem like an eternity for their fans. Never before have they spent so long outside the top flight and the fact their small Aragonese neighbours Huesca are in La Liga this season only adds insult to injury, as far as they are concerned. Zaragoza have made a mixed start to the campaign with 9 points from 7 games so far following on from a season where they narrowly missed out on promotion.

They are still a point better off than Osasuna though. The Pamplona side have more recent memories of top flight football but there is already a bit of pressure growing on boss Jagoba Arrasate, a summer appointment. They only took one point from their opening 3 games so there was no kind of honeymoon period whatsoever but things have picked up a touch since then, with a 1-0 win over Sporting Gijon their most notable success.

All of their points this season have come at home though so it’s hard to really fancy them much in a tough away game likes this. Their three away fixtures have all ended in defeats to nil. Their most recent away loss was against Gimnastic Tarragona who are 2nd bottom and it’s just 1 victory in 8 away Segunda Division matches overall for Osasuna now.

Zaragoza’s form has been patchy but they have no reason not to fancy this. They turned La Romareda into a real fortress at the back end of last season and they have to take some belief from a record of 11 wins from their last 15 at home in the league. They came from 2-0 down to draw on the road at Albacete last week too so they will take some confidence and momentum from that comeback into this one and overall backing Zaragoza to Win looks like it could be the value bet here, with home advantage likely to just sway things in favour of the Aragonese club.
