Rennes rallying but Montpellier motoring

Unbeaten in 10 in all competitions, Rennes are all but through to the knockout stages of the Europa Conference League while domestically they sit fifth after four wins from their last five games in Ligue 1.

They asserted their authority among the European contenders with a dominant 4-1 win over Lyon before the international break and at home, under Bruno Genesio they have been brilliant. The Red and Blacks have won nine of their games at Roazhon Park, drawing two and losing one of their home matches and have kept a clean sheet in three of their last four matches at this venue.

Montpellier, meanwhile, have put together back-to-back wins to move up to sixth and just behind Rennes in the standings. A 2-0 win at home to Nantes was followed by a 1-0 victory over Nice in what was their first win away from home this term. After going four games without a win, Montpellier have won three of their last four and kept clean sheets in each of their last two games.

Rennes have conceded just three goals in their last five matches which has seen them accumulate more points in the league than anyone else with 13. Montpellier have taken 10 and shipped just four goals which is why we are predicting under 2.5 goals here.

It’s anyone’s game given the recent form of both but Rennes have been impeccable at home under Genesio and I reckon they are going to edge this one, 1-0.
