Senegal to Win

Reason for tip

Senegal haven’t lost a match in 90 minutes since September 2023 and their quality should be too much for an Irish side that has lost five of their last nine internationals.

Senegal 2-1

Reason for tip

The Irish won 2-1 in each of their two games in March but they could see a reversal of that scoreline against a Senegal side who have significantly more threat going forward.

Republic Of Ireland vs Senegal Predictions

  • Senegal have won 13 of their 17 internationals since the start of 2024
  • The Irish lost five of their final seven games in 2024
  • The hosts have won one of their last five friendly matches

Visitors’ quality to tell

The Republic of Ireland began 2025 with home and away wins over Bulgaria to stave off Nations League relegation, ending a run of five defeats in seven. Their struggles are likely to resume this weekend, as they host a strong Sengal side in Dublin.

The visitors were upset in the last 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations last year, but the squad they bring to the Irish capital includes Saudi Pro League stars Sadio Mane, Kalidou Koulibaly and Edouard Mendy.

They’re supported by some impressive names from around Europe, with Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr, Tottenham’s Pape Matar Sarr and Monaco’s Lamine Camara all on another level to the standard of the hosts.

A wayward loan for Evan Ferguson at West Ham is a massive concern for the Irish, as the 20-year-old is the player their hopes for the future hang on. In the short term, this is a squad thin on standout players. The reliance on 33-year-old pair Matt Doherty and Robbie Brady at full-back is a concern against the wide threat Senegal offer.

Heimir Hallgrimsson’s reign has yet to really take off, while the Irish have failed to win four of their last five friendly internationals. Their opponents have won 13 of their last 17 games since the beginning of 2024, so they’re well-priced for another victory.
