River Plate vs Central Cordoba Predictions

  • River are top of the Superliga with 33 points from 17 games and have also scored the most goals in the division; plunging home an average of 1.88 goals a game.
  • However, River have conceded at least once in 4 of their last 5 Superliga home games.
  • Central Cordoba have won just 1 of their 8 away league matches this term.
  • The visitors have at least managed to notch in 6 of said matches, including each of the last 5.

River looking for a routine win

It was a good return to Superliga action for River Plate last weekend as they travelled to Mendoza to face Godoy Cruz and ran out 1-0 winners. With Boca dropping points at home to Independiente, said win leaves Los Millionarios top of the pile with a 3 point margin for error and well on course to claim the domestic crown.

River are undoubtedly one of the division’s strongest outfits and are playing in a very impressive manner. They have outstanding firepower that is enough to open up any team but it does have to be said a degree of defensive improvement could be found, particularly at home, where they’ve kept just 1 clean sheet in their last 5 league outings.

Central Cordoba looking to cause an upset

Meanwhile, even being in the position of travelling to the Monumental for a league fixture is something of a dream for Central Cordoba. Indeed, prior to securing promotion to the Superliga last season, the side spent over four decades in the lower divisions but they’ve managed to equip themselves fairly well in the top flight, taking 21 points from 17 games to stand 18th in a 24-team division.

There’s still work to be done, but Central Cordoba are well on course to retain their top flight status, which would be a big achievement for a club with their scope of resources. An away game at River does feel like something of a free hit for the visitors but having notched in 6 of their 8 away league matches this term, including in each of the last 5, they’ll be confident in giving the hosts something to think about.

A home win is expected but Central Cordoba should notch

Ultimately, there can be no questioning who the favourites are to win Sunday’s match and that’s River. The two are worlds apart in just about every metric and it’s not a game River can afford to drop points in as they chase the title.

Nonetheless, Central Cordoba’s firepower and aggression on the road does have to be respected and for that reason, we see good value in backing the Both Teams to Score line. River haven’t been particularly solid defensively at home of late and whilst their attacking quality should be enough to see them through on Sunday, we do believe Central Cordoba can score; albeit in a 3-1 margin of defeat.
