      Roma vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions

Roma may have to learn to live life without goalkeeper Alisson and midfielder Radja Nainggolan following their summer departures, but they do have a few consolations to soften the blow. First is the cool £90 million they pocketed from those two deals, and the other is the fact that they have an almost fully fit and well rested squad ahead of the long season in front of them.

This shows in their squad selection for this tour of the United States. The vast majority of their star players are present and ready to play, including Edin Dzeko, Diego Perotti, Kevin Strootman, Daniele De Rossi, and new signings Javier Pastore and Justin Kluivert. None of these have been in World Cup action, something you can’t say about Mauricio Pocchettino’s side.

Tottenham Hotspur, on the opposite side of the spectrum to Roma, have almost their entire starting lineup absent as they recover from their World Cup efforts. Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and Spurs’ entire back line are still resting, as are the likes of Mousa Dembele, Dele Alli, Eric Dier, and Harry Kane. Christian Eriksen, Davinson Sanchez, and Son Heung-Min have been named in the squad, but it’s unlikely they’ll be playing any part on Wednesday night.

Of course, results matter very little in these pre-season friendly tournaments, but if you put 22 footballers on a pitch together you can be sure that both teams will be gunning for a result. If that happens here it’s hard to see the vast talents of the Roma squad being upset by Tottenham’s second string selection here.

Additionally, Spurs don’t have a particularly promising record in the International Champions Cup. They have won just one of their five matches in the friendly tournament, losing all of the other four. One of these came against AS Roma in last year’s instalment too.

I just can’t see past the Italian side here. They not only have a better squad, but they have already played two friendlies this summer and new signings Javier Pastore, Justin Kluivert, and Gregoire Defrel will be keen to make an impact. Backing a Roma win looks the best option for Saturday night’s game, along with a 2-0 correct score predictions.
