Romania vs Iceland Predictions

• Romania won the reverse meeting 2-0 back in September.
• Romania have won three of their four home qualifiers.
• Iceland have lost six of their last seven competitive away games.

Almost there

Romania can see the finish line after a 1-0 win over Armenia last month left them in 2nd place in Group J and well-equipped to attain a play-off place. Six points from their final two games will guarantee it and with Liechtenstein at home to follow this game feels like their final hurdle.

Germany’s narrow 1-0 win is the only blemish on Romania’s home record in qualifying and the hosts have kept four clean sheets in their last five matches on home soil. They last qualified for a World Cup in 1998 but with five wins in their last seven home matches, Romania can almost taste the finals and a business-like performance here should garner a 2-0 victory.

Frozen out

Iceland were at the 2018 World Cup in Russia but a poor qualifying campaign this time around leaves them all but eliminated. Both of Iceland’s wins in the group have come against whipping boys Liechtenstein and they have failed to score in four of their six qualifiers outside of those matches. The visitors have also failed to score in each of their other two games away from home, losing 3-0 in Germany and 2-0 at Armenia.

With only Germany managing to break down Romania at home in recent months, it’s hard to see Iceland giving them much trouble hence our win to-nil prediction.
