Romania vs Malta Predictions

Romania were narrowly beaten 2-1 at home by Spain in midweek and will be looking to bounce back with a convincing win over one of Group F’s whipping boys on Sunday. Malta lost 2-0 away at Norway and have now been beaten in their last four qualifying matches without scoring a single goal but still sit above the Faeroe Islands who have no points to their name.

All of the stats suggest that Romania will win this weekend and that we can expect to see over 3.5 goals scored in the process, as was the case when the pair last met back in June.

Romania won the only previous meeting between these two clubs 4-0 a few months ago in Malta where Puşcaş scored twice for the visitors who had Chipciu sent-off in the final ten minutes. Romania controlled the match for the most part and limited their hosts to just a single shot on target during the ninety.

The recent form and performances of both teams since the tail-end of last year suggest that Romania will claim all three points on Sunday and that we are likely to be treated to over 3.5 goals because the hosts have won three of their last six internationals, while Malta have lost their last four qualifiers. Over 3.5 goals were scored in three of Romania’s last four matches and Malta haven’t scored in any of their last four internationals, so expect the home side to keep a clean sheet this weekend.

Romania have only lost one of their last eight home games and Malta have failed to win any of their last eleven on the road. The hosts have scored four goals in two of their last four international matches, beating Malta 4-0 and the Faroe Islands 4-1, and we’re backing the hosts to score at least another four goals on Sunday.

We’re confident that Romania will win and over 3.5 goals will be produced in Sunday’s qualifier and have predicted a final scoreline of 4-0. Romania are by far the better team of the two and should have no troubles beating a Malta side that have failed to score in their last four internationals and have conceded eleven goals during that period.
