Rosario Central vs River Plate (Montevideo) Betting Tips and Predictions

Rosario Central are the clear favourites and that is no surprise given they a side that is currently topping their half of the Argentine Primera Division and they are at home to one of the less well known Uruguayan clubs. However there is a fair amount of pressure on them to deliver the goods here. They’ve made a slow start to their first Libertadores campaign for a decade. They drew their opener 1-1 at home to Nacional and were beaten 2-0 away to Palmeiras last time out. They were held to a 2-2 draw at home by Banfield at the weekend and have only won 1 of their last 5 games in all competitions.

River Plate are the underdogs in this group but have competed admirably so far. They drew 2-2 at home to Palmeiras and drew 0-0 in the Montevideo derby at Nacional in their second group game so they are very much in the mix. They’ve not made a great start to the season at home picking up just 5 points from 5 games but have been resting players in the league and seem intent on making a real good go of their debut Libertadores campaign and they knocked out one of the more established sides in Universidad Chile in the play-offs.

Despite being down in 11th in the Uruguayan top flight they have lost just twice this season in all competitions and only twice in 12 games overall. Only 1 of their last 20 matches has resulted in a defeat by more than 1 goal and given Rosario Central have already failed to beat Uruguayan opposition at home in this group, backing River Plate +2 Goal Handicap at 4/6 looks a decent shout here.
