Russia vs Montenegro Betting Tips

Russia’s 2-1 win over Moldova lifted their points tally in Group G of the Euro 2016 qualifiers to 17 points from nine games, a total that puts them within touching distance of an automatic qualification position going into the final game.

Sweden are breathing down their necks in 3^rd place though, and with them fully expected to win against Moldova in their final game it means Russia need a point to fend off Sweden in the battle for 3^rd place.

Russia’s 7-0 win over Liechtenstein at the start of September has helped them enormously though, with their goal difference boosted significantly to allow them a bit of breathing room in this final game. Should Russia draw, Sweden would need to win by a margin of ten goals to catch the 2^nd placed side.

Russia have only lost twice in this qualifying period, with a duo of losses to Austria joining draws against Moldova and Sweden and five wins.

They will be hoping to pick up a sixth win on Monday against a Montenegro side who let a lead against group leaders Austria slip through their fingers on Friday night.

They led the visitors 2-1 going into the final ten minutes of the match, but a flurry of late attacks saw them surrender and they ended up losing the game 3-2.

This result saw their points tally remain on 11 points, and 3^rd placed Sweden extended their lead over them to an insurmountable four points going into the final game.

Montenegro’s qualification hopes are now formally over, so they will probably be downhearted against Russia on Monday.

Russia beat Montenegro 3-0 in their meeting back in March, and now that they are on home turf they will be confident of taking another victory to end qualifying on a high. They will want to get off to a good start though to avoid any nerves creeping later on in the match.
