Saint-Etienne vs Lorient Betting Tips & Predictions

Saint-Etienne challenge for a Champions League spot looked to be dead and buried a few weeks ago when they were going into a match against Montpellier on the back of a six match winless streak that had seen them drop points in Ligue 1, get eliminated from the Europa League, and get knocked out of the Coupe De France.

However, they bounced back with a 3-0 win against Montpellier, and they have won all of their three matches since then to take them back to 5th in the Ligue 1 table. They are only four points adrift of 2nd placed Monaco and only two from claiming an all important Champions League spot.

Lorient were looking like they could challenge for Europe themselves, but after winning just one of their last seven in all competitions they have dropped down to 11th in the table, with ten points separating them from qualification now.

Three of these seven matches have ended in defeat for Lorient, including getting knocked out of the Coupe De France on Tuesday by Paris Saint Germain.

Lorient’s poor form is largely down to defensive vulnerabilities rather than a poor quality of attacking play. They have managed to score in seven of their last eight away days in Ligue 1, but despite that they have only managed to pick up two victories.

Saint-Etienne have conceded in three of their last five home matches in the league as well, so there is certainly a good chance that Lorient can get on the scoresheet. Ultimately I expect Saint-Etienne to outscore them though. The visitors have shipped 18 goals in their last eight away games.

Odds of 10/11 for Both Teams to Score on Sunday look very good value though, and I’m backing that along with a 2-1 win for Saint-Etienne at 7/1.
