Tip Reasoning

  • Salford City have won two of their last three home league games.
  • Hartlepool have the worst away record in League Two with only one point from their first five games.

Ammies have ammunition to down Pools

Hartlepool’s away struggles look likely to continue when they face a Salford City side that were denied a point by a 95th-minute Walsall winner last weekend.

Pools have picked up only one point from their first five away trips and the Peninsula Stadium has been something of a fortress for the past two seasons – where the Ammies have only lost twice in league play.

Gary Bowyer’s side were without several first-teamers at Banks’s Stadium last weekend and, although some will still be away on international duty, should have striker Brandon Thomas-Asante available again after suspension.

Don’t be sure of Salford keeping a clean sheet

For Pools, Gary Liddle looks set to miss out again with manager Dave Challinor indicating last week he’d resist the temptation to rush the midfield stalwart back from injury if his team performed against Northampton.

They got a crucial three points against the Cobblers to move into the top eight, but getting results in front of their own fans have not been a problem this season. Away from Victoria Park, Challinor’s men have failed to score in their last four games and there would be a temptation to back Salford to win to nil here because the Ammies have three clean sheets in their first five home matches.

But, at a shade of odds on, we are happy to keep it simple with a Salford win bet and suggest the 2-1 correct score play for this one because the Ammies haven’t been so sure-footed at the back of late. They conceded within 28 seconds last weekend and have now shipped eight in their last six league games, but have also been good for a ten of their own across the last seven.
