Sassuolo vs Roma Predictions

Roma held on to second place in Serie A over the weekend, as they saw off Palermo in Sunday’s late game. The side from the capital are aiming to push Juventus for the title, after missing out on a Champions League place this term. Can they continue their strong run of form at Sassuolo on Wednesday night? The hosts have a pretty impressive record in front of their own fans.

Sassuolo haven’t quite recreated the form which saw them finish sixth last season. However, they’ve had some European games which have stretched their squad. They’ve also been missing key forward Domenico Berardi for the majority of the campaign. Despite that, they’ve built up quite a winning run at Stadio Città del Tricolore.

There’s a bit of an asterisk on Sassuolo’s home form, as their one defeat here was actually a 2-1 victory. They saw off newly promoted Pescara, but a registration mix up saw the result declared void, meaning they lost out on those points. If you just look at the matches they’ve played, rather than recorded results, their home record is very impressive. That makes it six consecutive home victories they’ve recorded since the back end of the last campaign.

That also gives them a total of seven goals in four, while they’ve conceded just two so far. That works out at an average of 0.5 per game here, rather than the one goal per game it’s being recorded as. That doesn’t make Sassuolo a fantastic defensive unit, as we’ve seen that they’re capable of conceding quite a few. They do make up for their defensive problems by scoring a lot, the Pescara game is their only Serie A match this term where they’ve not scored, officially.

That record will be severely tested on Wednesday, as they host a Roma side who are in fantastic form. They’ve won four of their last five in the league, while they have not lost a game in five in all competitions. The visitors have quite a few issues with injuries at the back, and that leaves them pretty exposed defensively. They’re typically a high scoring side, as 11 of their last 12 Serie A games have seen over 2.5 goals. They’ve found the net twice or more in 10 of their last 12 fixtures in the league.

This should be another high scoring affair. Both sides are high scorers, and they’re both going to be confident ahead of this clash. Roma have conceded in every away game so far, and they’ve averaged 2.56 goals per game in the league. They’ve scored and conceded in their last four, and we’re backing that to extend to five here. Over 2.5 goals and both teams to score is our tip here, which is evens with bet365.
