Sassuolo can get their season back on track

Sassuolo’s winless run in Serie A stands at five after Monday’s 2-1 loss at Torino, but Alessio Dionisi’s side have the perfect fixture in rock-bottom Salernitana to stop the rot.

Sassuolo had a strong end to September, when they recorded back-to-back wins over Juventus and Inter, but a 1-0 defeat at home to Monza at the beginning of October was when things started to unravel.

Draws with Lecce and Bologna and defeats to Lazio and Torino have followed, a quintet of poor performances which have left them in 15th in Serie A with only 11 points collected from as many games.

However, the hosts’ troubles are not a patch on basement boys Salernitana, who remain winless in Serie A this season.

The visitors have drawn four and lost seven of their opening 11 league games, conceding 22 goals and scoring only six.

Travel-sick Salernitana set for more misery

Since drawing 2-2 at Roma in their opening away game of the campaign, Salernitana have lost all four road trips to nil, which includes against 13th-placed Lecce, 14th-placed Genoa and second-bottom Empoli.

That lack of firepower suggests Sassuolo should be able to regain the winning thread against Salernitana, who they swatted aside 5-0 on their visit to the Mapei Stadium last season.

So the hosts should triumph and correct-score punters can bank on them to do so with a clean sheet, with 2-0 the approach to take.
