Schalke vs Cologne Predictions

• Both of these sides finished in the bottom-three the last time they competed in the top-flight together.
• Eight of the last ten Bundesliga H2Hs between these sides have seen both teams find the net.
• Both teams have scored in two thirds of Cologne’s away league games this season.

Going against the grain, for better or worse

A shocking return of nine goals conceded in two games since the Bundesliga restart doesn’t make good reading for fans of former giants and current rock-bottom side Schalke, yet they at least have a hope of success at home having picked up all of their measly seven-point haul here at the Veltins Arena.

Providing the opposition are Cologne, a side buoyed by a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Bayern Munich last time out to keep them in a mid-table position.

A long injury list hampers them though and they’re no strangers to a relegation battle themselves, so Schalke will undoubtedly target this as one of their more winnable games despite their rank outsider status.

Football is a funny old game

Common sense would tell you to jump on Cologne at just short of evens given their insane eight-goal haul in two games since the restart. However, football has a funny way of knocking sides down a few pegs and I predict that this may well happen here as a desperate Schalke side look to get some more points on the board.

As to avoid the win markets, I’m going for a BTTS – yes selection in this game. This bet would have landed in eight of the last ten H2Hs and given Schalke’s current predicament, the side cut five points adrift at the bottom of the table will need to throw the kitchen sink at this prolific Schalke side to have any chance of success.
