Sevilla vs Lens Predictions
- Lens have lost four of their five games this term
- The visitors lack European experience and have lost all three away games
- Sevilla won 1-0 against Las Palmas at the weekend and drew with Man City last month
Both sides struggling early on
It’s been a tough start to the season for both of these sides, who are struggling to match their success from last term. Sevilla are top seeds in this group thanks to winning the Europa League last term, but the Spanish side were midtable in La Liga last term and they sit 17th coming into this game.
Things are even worse for Lens, who were a point shy of leaders PSG in Ligue 1 last term. The visitors are bottom of the French top flight with a single point from five games. They were beaten 1-0 at home by Metz at the weekend, which suggests it is time to panic as the club try to reinvent themselves after some significant summer departures.
Sevilla’s experience to edge it
Sevilla did see some green shoots of recovery at the weekend with a narrow 1-0 win over Las Palmas as they got their first three points on the board. The fact that Lens had their worst result of the season on Saturday coupled with that Sevilla win points to the hosts being worthy favourites.
The other thing going Sevilla’s way is that they have the European experience to edge this clash. Lens are returning to this competition after 20 years away, while the hosts have dominated in the Europa League and they managed to hold their own with Man City in the Super Cup earlier this term.
Sevilla can bank on home advantage and given that Lens have conceded three goals in each of their three trips this term, back the hosts to earn a win.
