Real Madrid to Win

Reason for tip

Shakhtar Donetsk have only won two of their last home* games in the Champions League, while also picking up just one victory in their last ten outings in this competition. Real meanwhile will qualify for the knock-out stages with a win, have drawn once and won 11 times in 2022/23 and have won five of the seven meetings between these two sides

Real Madrid 1-0

Reason for tip

Real Madrid have kept two clean sheets in their three Champions League games, whereas Shakhtar are on a run of no clean sheets in six. They have conceded exactly once in four of those games though, whereas Real have failed to net in one of their last 16

Shakhtar Donetsk vs Real Madrid Predictions

  • Shakhtar are on a run of one win in ten Champions League clashes
  • Real Madrid have won 11 of their 12 games this season
  • Real have won five of the seven clashes between the two teams

Shakhtar in need of a win

Shakhtar Donetsk lost 2-1 just last week when these two sides met in the reverse fixture, meaning they are on a run of one win in ten Champions League victories.

That victories came over RB Leipzig earlier on in the campaign, but they have struggled at ‘home’, where they have picked up only two successes in 15 outings (although this game is being played on neutral territory in Poland).

This season has also not gone to plan for the Ukrainian outfit, who sit two points off top spot domestically, but are on a run of one win in four and haven’t kept a clean sheet in six.

Can Real qualify?

With three wins from their opening three group games, Real know that a victory here will see them qualify for the knock-out stages yet again.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side, who are defending champions, won 1-0 against Getafe at the weekend, ensuring they have picked up 11 victories in 12 outings this season.

Six of those successes have come on the road, while they also beat Frankfurt 2-0 on neutral territory in the UEFA Super Cup.

I predict that Real Madrid will win this match, with 1-0 my correct score prediction.
