Tip Reasoning

  • Sheffield United have the Championship’s third-highest xG at home this season (1.79).
  • Coventry City have conceded at least two goals in four of their last six Championship away games.
  • Away from home, Coventry have the fifth-highest xG against in the Championship this season (1.59).

Blades can cut through Sky Blues backline

Sheffield United needed the international break to halt the alarming slide down the table that sees them placed a lowly 18th going into Saturday’s home clash with surprise package Coventry City.

The Blades faithful feel it should be Slavisa Jokanovic’s side and not Mark Robins’ Sky Blues that are occupying a top-four slot approaching the most important and fixture-heavy phase of the season.

United have been woefully inconsistent at getting results so far, but the underlying stats suggest they are performing like a promotion candidate – at Bramall Lane at least.

Blackburn goal could spark Brewster

Only West Brom and Fulham have produced better quality chances to score on their own patches, so things could improve quickly if Jokanovic’s strikers find their feet. Rhian Brewster, the club-record signing that took 13 months to score his first league goal for the club, has been an enigma – but maybe his stunning finish against Blackburn last time out could spark a few in quick succession as tends to happen with forwards of his ilk.

Coventry’s defence will have to be wary and they didn’t face anything like as threatening as a Brewster-Billy Sharp strikeforce when rolling over timid Hull City on their last away trip. That has been their only away clean sheet this term as Robins’ side have shipped 13 goals in eight road games.

We’re taking the Blades to find the net twice against visitors that have conceded at least two goals in four of their last six Championship away games. The Blades may have only kept one home clean sheet so far this term, but Coventry have been blanked three times in eight away games – so an away goal isn’t necessarily a banker here.

However, with an xG of 1.33 away from home, the value in correct score betting terms is for Robins’ side to notch once in a 2-1 defeat.
