      Shrewsbury to Win

      Reason for tip

Shrewsbury look the better side to trust at home, having won their last two League Two matches at the New Meadow and scored in four straight games. Newport, by contrast, have lost five of their last seven and own the worst defensive record in the division, conceding 27 goals in 15 matches. Shrewsbury’s sharper edge should prove decisive.

      Shrewsbury 1-0

      Reason for tip

A 1-0 Shrewsbury win fits the form. Newport have lost five games by a single goal this season and have failed to keep a clean sheet in 16 of their last 20 outings. With four of their last five matches seeing at least one team fail to score, a narrow home victory looks the most logical outcome.

Shrewsbury Backed to Deepen Newport’s Defensive Crisis

Shrewsbury have won their last two League Two home games and they are the best bet to beat Newport on Saturday.

They are one place above Newport in the table, with just two points separating the two sides. The visitors have won three of their 15 games this season while Shrewsbury are 23rd in League Two with three wins, four draws and eight defeats.

Newport could not break their losing habit last time, going down 4-2 at home to Walsall, despite dominating the game with 69.1% possession – more than in any League Two game they’ve played this season. Newport were priced as 16/5 outsiders to win the game, but still would have been hoping to be more competitive than the final margin of defeat.

Shrewsbury have been in goalscoring form, finding the net in their last four league games, and scoring at least twice in two of those.

Backing Newport’s opponents during their current run of five defeats in seven League Two games would have resulted in a profit of 3.11 units.

The visitors’ recent form is underwhelming. Five of Newport’s last seven League Two matches have ended in defeat.

The visitors have been poor defensively this season. Newport have failed to keep a clean sheet in 16 of their last 20 League Two games and no team has a worse defensive record in the division this season, conceding 27 goals in 15 games.

A 1-0 win for Shrewsbury looks like the correct score pick. Four of Newport’s last five League Two games have ended with at least one side failing to score and they have gone down by a single goal five times this season.
