      Southampton vs Manchester City Predictions

It’s been an incredibly nervous time to be a Southampton fan this season, with a complete breakdown in form pushing them to the brink of relegation. Fortunately for them, Mark Hughes seems to have dug them out of that deep hole and looks to be on the brink of securing top flight football for next season.

The Saints beat Swansea in midweek in an absolutely crucial game at the bottom of the table. It pushes them three points clear of The Swans with just one game remaining, and their superior goal difference means that a nine goal turnaround is needed for Southampton to drop back into the bottom three.

Against Manchester City that is by no means impossible, especially with The Citizens looking to end their record breaking and title winning season with a bang. A win here would make them the first team in English top flight history to hit the 100 point barrier. It would also see them win a record breaking 32 games in a Premier League season and also break the record for most number of away wins and points in a single season.

Pep Guardiola’s men did hit a bit of a stumbling block back in April as they were knocked out of the Champions League against Liverpool and fell to their first home league defeat of the season against arch rivals Manchester United. However, since the title was mathematically sealed it’s been business as usual for them.

Their 3-1 win over Brighton in midweek made it five games unbeaten in the league, and four of those have ended in comprehensive victories. They have scored 15 goals in these five games and have totalled a ridiculous 105 this campaign.

Not only this, but they still have the best defensive record in the top flight. Even so, we’re not expecting a clean sheet for Manchester City on Sunday. Away from home they have conceded in five of their last seven league matches, and for all of Southampton’s failures they have still found the net in ten of their last 12 competitive home games.

Manchester City are ridiculously short odds to win this one, so we think the most value lies in the Both Teams to Score market. However, we are expecting the visitors to take the three points so we’re going for a 3-1 correct score predictions.

Much was made of how Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus would fit into the squad at the start of the season, but an injury to top scorer Aguero has left the door open for Jesus to take the number nine role. He has flourished as well, with the 21 year old Brazilian netting in four of their last six competitive games and in each of his last three league away days. We’re backing him to find the net here for our anytime goalscorer predictions.

Southampton Predicted Lineup: McCarthy, Stephens, Yoshida, Hoedt, Bertrand, Soares, Hojbjerg, Romeu, Tadic, Redmond, Austin

Manchester City Predicted Lineup: Ederson, Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Mendy, Fernandinho, Gundogan, De Bruyne, Sterling, Sane, Jesus
