Southampton’s fortress was finally broken against Chelsea as they stuck two past Fraser Forster last weekend, with those being the first goals Forster had conceded since returning from injury earlier in the year.

They followed this up in midweek by conceding two against Bournemouth, and it looks like their excellent defensive run has come to an end. These two defeats have seen them slip down to 9th in the Premier League table, and they are now seven points adrift of Manchester United, whom had felt their breath on the back of their necks a couple of weeks ago.

However, a home match against Sunderland should get them back to winning ways. The visitors have lost six of their last eight away games in all competitions. But the struggling north easterners did manage to grab a point against Crystal Palace in midweek to take them out of the relegation zone on goal difference.

All of Sunderland’s problems have been defensive. They have managed to score 34 goals in the league this season but have shipped 53 at the other end. This makes a high scoring game a real possibility on Saturday.

Southampton have conceded four in their last two matches and are coming up against a Sunderland side who have scored in eight of their last ten matches. At the back, the visitors have shipped 22 goals in their last eight away days, but they have managed to score 11 themselves.

This makes odds of Evens for Both Teams to Score look very attractive indeed, and that’s what I’m going for. I do think the Saints will win as well, so a 3-1 correct score prediction looks good at 14/1 as well.
